Regional Scholarships

$3,000-$5,000 each

Annual Application Deadline: December 1
Scholarships are awarded for the academic year following the application deadline beginning with the fall semester. 
Re-applications accepted from former scholarship applicants and recipients who meet current criteria.

General:
Scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that has traditionally been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession at a school.  Additional criteria for each regional scholarship is listed below.  Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • The institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch ASHRAE Student Branches or
  • The program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) www.abet.org or
  • The program is accredited by the Consejo de Acreditacion de la Ensenanza de la Ingenieria (CACEI) www.cacei.org

ASHRAE Region IV Benny Bootle Scholarship - $5,000

A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate pre-engineering, engineering or architecture student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region IV (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia) and meets the general criteria listed above.

ASHRAE James R. Bullock Scholarship - $5,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region IV (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia) or who has graduated from a high school in Region IV (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia) and meets the general criteria listed above.

ASHRAE Rusty & Debbie Hoffman Family Scholarship - $5,000
A one-year scholarship available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student enrolled at one of the schools listed below or who has graduated from a high school within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region IV (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia) and where at least one of the following criteria is met:

  1. The program is ABET-accredited, or
  2. The institution has an active ASHRAE student branch
  • North Carolina State University
  • North Carolina A&T State University
  • East Carolina University
  • University of North Carolina – Charlotte

ASHRAE Region I Setty Family Foundation Scholarship - $3,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region I or who has graduated from a high school within Region I (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Maine, & New Hampshire) and meets the general criteria listed above.

ASHRAE Region III Setty Family Foundation Scholarship - $3,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate pre-engineering or engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region III (Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C.) and meets the general criteria listed above.

ASHRAE Region VIII Scholarship - $3,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate pre-engineering or engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region VIII (Arkansas, Louisiana*, Texas*, Oklahoma, and Mexico) and meets the general criteria listed above. *Parts of these states are not within the geographic boundaries of Region VIII.  Contact ASHRAE headquarters for information regarding eligible schools in these areas.


Applications and the following supporting documents must be submitted on or before the application deadline to receive consideration. 

  1. Official transcript of grades. Transcript must either be mailed, sent through an online electronic transfer service, or directly from your registrar’s office on your behalf. Photocopies will not be accepted.
  2. Three signed letters of recommendation as follows: one from an instructor or faculty advisor, a current or past employer, and another character reference (other than a family member). In cases where the institution has an ASHRAE student branch on campus, a letter from the faculty advisor of that branch may be one of the three letters of recommendation.
