News about the 2020 Building Performance Analysis Conference and SimBuild

With your safety top of mind, the 2020 Building Performance Analysis Conference and SimBuild will not take place in Chicago, IL, August 12-14, 2020. Instead, we will present the conference in a new and convenient virtual format September 29 – October 1, 2020.

Additional details concerning the virtual conference will be available in the coming weeks. For immediate questions, please contact meetings@ashrae.org.

2020 Building Performance Analysis Conference & SimBuild Co-organized by ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA

ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA will jointly host the annual Building Performance Analysis Conference & SimBuild for 2020. The focus of the 2020 BPAC Conference will be to improve the decision making process through the application of simulation and modeling over the entire building life cycle, from the earliest concept through operation and maintenance to achieve the goals of zero energy, zero carbon, or other high performance targets.  Practitioners, vendors, researchers, utility and government officials, and owners will address the practices of energy modeling and building performance simulation using existing simulation tools, software development, and future simulation research and applications.

The anticipated conference program consists of Keynote Speakers, Invited Speakers, a Call for Papers, a Call for Presentations and the sixth ASHRAE LowDown Showdown. Special panels may be offered by industry leaders and organizations.

Highlights:

  • Focus on practical applications using existing tools
  • ASHRAE LowDown Showdown modeling challenge
  • PDHs, AIA LUs and LEED AP credits available
  • Vendor demonstrations
  • Call for Presentations

Building modeling professionals and practitioners were invited to submit presentation proposals between 15-30 minutes in length or 45-90 minute panel and seminar sessions. Over 70 proposals covering a broad range of topics addressing the needs of the building performance modeling community were received.

    • Education
    • Intelligent Building Operations
    • Miscellaneous Other Topics

  • 2020 ASHRAE LowDown Showdown

Each year of the LDSd competition, we ask participating teams to take on a new challenge in building performance analysis.  For 2020 when we ask the question “How low can you go?” we are not only talking about energy use.  Taking a page from New York City’s groundbreaking new Climate Mobilization Act that requires building owners to reduce their carbon footprint, the 2020 LDSd challenges participants to design a new building that has a low carbon or carbon neutral footprint.

The 2020 LDSd model building will be located in New York City.  Participating Teams will design a 300,000 sf, 15 story mixed-use building located anywhere in the five boroughs.  The building will contain retail space, residential space and a full-service restaurant.
