ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA will jointly host the annual Building Performance Analysis Conference & SimBuild for 2020 which will be held at the Westin River North on August 12-14, 2020 in Chicago, Illinois. The focus of the 2020 BPAC Conference will be to improve the decision making process through the application of simulation and modeling over the entire building life cycle, from the earliest concept through operation and maintenance to achieve the goals of zero energy, zero carbon, or other high performance targets. The conference brings together the building energy analysis and performance simulation community for three days of discussions, seminars, and short courses. Practitioners, vendors, researchers, utility and government officials, and owners will address the practices of energy modeling and building performance simulation using existing simulation tools, software development, and future simulation research and applications.

The anticipated conference program consists of Keynote Speakers, Invited Speakers, a Call for Papers, a Call for Presentations and the sixth ASHRAE LowDown Showdown. Special panels may be offered by industry leaders and organizations.

Highlights:

  • Focus on practical applications using existing tools
  • ASHRAE LowDown Showdown modeling challenge
  • PDHs, AIA LUs and LEED AP credits available
  • Virtual conference
  • Vendor demonstrations

Pre-conference courses on the 10th and 11th

  • Call for Presentations

Building modeling professionals and practitioners are invited to submit presentation proposals between 15-30 minutes in length or 45-90 minute panel and seminar sessions. The theme of the conference is "Integrated Building Design and Analysis to Achieve Zero Carbon." The conference sought papers on topics involving the use of innovative approaches for integration of modeling tools for better building design, performance, and operation to meet aggressive targets for compliance, energy reduction, decarbonization, and resiliency. The topics for the conference include (but are not limited to):

    • Early Design Modeling and Analysis
    • Component and Systems Modeling and Load Analysis
    • Codes, Standards, and Compliance Modeling
    • Modeling Carbon
    • Lighting and Daylighting
    • Occupant Behavior, Comfort / Health, Wellbeing
    • Urban Scale Modeling
    • Data Exchange and Interoperability
    • Big Data Applications for Large Scale Simulations

  • 2020 ASHRAE LowDown Showdown

Sign up NOW for the 6th Annual ASHRAE LowDown Showdown (LDSd) which will take place at the 2020 Building Performance Analysis Conference and SimBuild on August 12 – 14, 2020 in Chicago, Ill.

Each year of the LDSd competition, we ask participating teams to take on a new challenge in building performance analysis.  For 2020 when we ask the question “How low can you go?” we are not only talking about energy use.  Taking a page from New York City’s groundbreaking new Climate Mobilization Act that requires building owners to reduce their carbon footprint, the 2020 LDSd challenges participants to design a new building that has a low carbon or carbon neutral footprint.

The 2020 LDSd model building will be located in New York City.  Participating Teams will design a 300,000 sf, 15 story mixed-use building located anywhere in the five boroughs.  The building will contain retail space, residential space and a full-service restaurant.
