This November, ASHRAE will present HVAC Design: Level II – Applications in Lisbon, Portugal for the first time. This two-day course will take place 21-22 November 2019. While the fundamentals of good design practices are universal, the training has been adapted to meet the specific needs of European designers, whether they practice only in Europe or in areas were US standards are also applied.

This course is offered in conjunction with Data Center Design Training in Lisbon, 20 Nov.

    Transfer, Cancellation and Refund Policy:

    Registration fees will be refunded in full if cancellation is received by ASHRAE Learning Institute at least 30 days prior to the training date. Cancellations received 15–29 days prior to the training date are subject to a $150 cancellation fee. Registrants who do not attend the training or who cancel less than 15 days prior to the training date are liable for the entire registration fee. A substitute registrant may be enrolled at any time by contacting Tewana Parris at edu@ashrae.org, or by phone at +1 (678)549-2121. Member/Non-Member rates will apply to the substitute registrant.

  • Level II

    The greatest challenge facing engineering firms and building owners is maintaining a work force that understands the fundamentals of HVAC design and that is current with the application of new technologies. To address this need, ASHRAE developed the HVAC Design: Level II – Applications training. The training is tailored for engineers with advanced experience in the HVAC design field, or those who have completed HVAC Design: Level I – Essentials. Developed by industry-leading professionals, the training provides advanced information that allows practicing engineers and designers an opportunity to expand their exposure to HVAC systems design procedures for a better understanding of system options to save energy.

    Course Topics Include:

    • Designing, installing and maintaining HVAC systems
    • Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy, ASHRAE Standard 62.1, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, and ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings
    • Using ASHRAE’s Advanced Energy Design Guides
    • Increasing energy savings while improving indoor environmental quality

    Course Objectives:

    • Design HVAC systems to meet owners’ requirements
    • Provide installation & maintenance guidance to meet design objectives
    • Improve energy efficiency & IEQ through application of ASHRAE standard
    • Achieve high performing building design objectives through application for various building type

    Charlie Henck, P.E., Fellow/Life Member ASHRAE, CEM, LEED AP
    As a former design engineer, project manager, and department head during his career, Charlie Henck, P.E., Fellow/Life Member, both designed and renovated healthcare systems, office buildings, laboratories, data centers, and more. Henck has served on many ASHRAE committees and acted as past Director and Regional Chair (DRC) for Region III. He is the current chair of the Professional Development Committee (PDC) and secretary for Technical Committee (TC) 9.1, Large Building Air-Conditioning Systems. Henck wrote, edited, and revised portions of ASHRAE Laboratory Design Guide, Second Edition, with a focus on air treatment, particularly the requirements for allowable concentration limits and the technologies available to achieve acceptable levels. Henck is also actively involved in revising portions of ASHRAE Handbook—HVAC Systems and Equipment.

    José Luís Alexandre, Ph.D., Member ASHRAE
    currently works at the Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica, University of Porto. Dr. Alexandre does research in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Industrial Engineering. His most recent publication is 'Energy Certification Label vs. Passive Discomfort Index for existing dwellings'
