ASHRAE Society Chapter Scholarships

Annual Application Deadline: December 1
Scholarships are awarded for the academic year following the application deadline beginning with the fall semester. 
Re-applications accepted from former scholarship applicants and recipients who meet current criteria.

General:
Scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that has traditionally been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession.  Additional criteria for each chapter scholarship is listed below. Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and meet at least one of the following criteria.

ASHRAE Minnesota Chapter Peter Potvin Scholarship
Available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student enrolled full-time at a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of the Minnesota Chapter or who has graduated from a high school within the Minnesota Chapter geographic boundaries. 

ASHRAE New Jersey Chapter Scholarship
Available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering students enrolled full-time at a post-secondary educational institute within the geographic boundaries of the New Jersey Chapter or who has graduated from a high school within the New Jersey Chapter geographic boundaries. 

ASHRAE Central New York Chapter King-Traugott Scholarship
Available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student or engineering technology student enrolled full-time at a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of the Central New York Chapter.

ASHRAE Houston Chapter Scholarship
Available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical engineering student enrolled full-time at a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of the Houston Chapter.

ASHRAE Ottawa Chapter Scholarship
Available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical, architectural, sustainability, or building science engineering or engineering technology student enrolled full-time at a post-secondary educational institution within the ASHRAE Ottawa Valley Chapter or Canada’s National Capital Region, including the following:

  • Carleton University
  • University of Ottawa
  • Algonquin College
  • Cegep de L’Outaouais

Applications and the following documents must be submitted on or before the application deadline to receive consideration. 

  1. Official transcript of grades. Transcript must either be mailed, sent through an online electronic transfer service, or directly from your registrar’s office on your behalf. Photocopies will not be accepted.
  2. Three signed letters of recommendation as follows: one from an instructor or faculty advisor, a current or past employer, and another character reference (other than a family member). In cases where the institution has an ASHRAE student branch on campus, a letter from the faculty advisor of that branch may be one of the three letters of recommendation.
